The Story of Michael — And Why We Started
On October 17, 2021, we lost Michael Giles at just 24 years old.
At his celebration of life, the same phrase kept surfacing from the people who loved him: "Live like Mike." When asked what that meant, the answers came quickly — Michael always showed up. He served his community without being asked. He protected his friends without hesitation. He helped people who needed help without ever expecting anything in return. He did what was right, especially when it was hard.
At 24, he had already touched more lives than most people do in a lifetime.
Michael's sister Megan — an attorney and the founder of LiveLikeMike Homes — turned grief into purpose. She asked herself a simple question: If Michael were still here, what would he be doing? The answer was clear. He would be showing up for the people who needed someone in their corner. He would be building something.
So that is what she did.
What began as a way to honor a brother became an organization that has now housed over 200 people across Atlanta — individuals in recovery, essential workers priced out of the city they serve, and families holding vouchers with nowhere to turn. LiveLikeMike Homes manages 12 properties, maintains a 98% occupancy rate, and partners with the Police Alternative Diversion program, Fulton County Accountability Court, and Chris 180 to ensure our residents have more than just a roof — they have a path forward.
Every unit we create carries Michael's name and his spirit. Every resident who finds stability here becomes part of his legacy.
This is not just a housing organization. It is a promise — that we will keep showing up, the way Michael always did.
Live like Mike
Mission Statement
LiveLikeMike Homes exists to provide safe, affordable, and dignified housing for individuals and families who need someone in their corner. We serve those navigating recovery, transitioning from incarceration, cycling through housing instability, and holding vouchers with nowhere to use them. We do not just provide a place to sleep — we provide the stable foundation upon which everything else in a person's life can be rebuilt.
Vision Statement
A city where no one loses their fight for stability because they could not find a safe place to land. We envision an Atlanta where affordable housing is not a charity — it is a given. Where a voucher always has a home. Where a person leaving incarceration or treatment walks into structure, not chaos. Where the buildings that once served our communities continue to serve them in new ways. We are building that Atlanta one home, one resident, and one partnership at a time.

She is also a proud graduate of Lead ATL, Class of 2026, further deepening her roots and leadership within the city of Atlanta.
LiveLikeMike Homes was born from grief and transformed into purpose. In October 2021, Megan lost her brother Michael in a car accident — just three days after the two of them had started a real estate LLC together. He was only 24 years old. At his celebration of life, the same phrase kept surfacing from everyone who loved him: "Live like Mike." Michael was the person who always showed up — for his community, for his friends, for anyone who needed someone in their corner. Megan founded LiveLikeMike Homes to make sure he always would, turning one of the most painful moments of her life into a lasting legacy of hope, shelter, and second chances.
Outside of her professional and nonprofit work, Megan is a passionate advocate for the voiceless and a firm believer that safe housing is the foundation of every successful recovery. She approaches her work with the same tenacity and heart she brings to everything she does — and she is just getting started. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling, reading, watching romantic comedies, and spending quality time with her fiancé and their two dogs, Freedom and Einstein.
